Charlestown Pirate Basketball Head Coach Jason Connell has announced plans to host a Boys Basketball Skills Academy in the CHS Sports Arena beginning Monday, May 16th and running through Thursday, May 19th from 3:30-5:30 pm. The academy will be designed for boys of incoming grades 1 through 6th, at a cost of $25 per participant, including a t-shirt. Pirate Basketball Head Coach Jason Connell has announced that he will hold a mandatory parent meeting for any one having sons wanting to try out for CHS Pirate Basketball next year. The meeting will be held Monday, April 25th at 6 in the main gym. Discussions will include summer activities, fundraising, and expectations.
The IHSAA Class 3A Sectional #30 host Charlestown Pirates opened post season play Wednesday evening against the Corydon Panthers (2-22). The Pirates started slow, tied with the Panthers at six after one before opening up to a 31-12 halftime advantage. Charlestown (16-7) cruised in the second half to a 66-29 final, advancing themselves to Friday’s Sectional Semi-Final against Silver Creek. Silver Creek dispatched Scottsburg in Wednesday’s second contest. Friday’s 6:00 pm Sectional Semi-Final (all play at Charlestown’s CHS Sports Arena) will feature Brownstown versus Salem. Senior Tanner Wesp lead the Pirate stat line Wednesday evening with 13 points and 12 rebounds against Corydon. Senior Jamal Long added 13 points and Junior Jordan Knoebel nine respectively. CPPSB will broadcast Friday night’s Semi-Final versus Silver Creek, when the Pirates will attempt to avenge a Holiday Tourney double overtime loss to the Dragons on their floor. The IHSAA held its annual lottery draw to determine Boys Sectional pairing Sunday evening; as the Charlestown Pirates drew Corydon in Wednesday’s (Mar. 2nd) first game. Charlestown is also this year’s host of the Class 3A Boys Basketball Sectional #30, in the CHS Sports Arena. Charlestown (15-6) defeated Corydon (1-20) on the road this past Saturday 75-43. The remainder of the Sectional #30 pairings include Brownstown (18-3) v. North Harrison (12-7) in Tuesday’s game one, and Silver Creek (17-4) v. Scottsburg (1-20) in Wednesday’s second game. Salem (15-5) drew the bye and will play the Brownstown-North Harrison winner in the first Semi-Final game Friday March 4th. The Charlestown-Corydon winner and Silver Creek-Scottsburg winner will play in Friday’s second Semi-Final. The Pirate Basketball team hosted North Harrison Thursday evening in Mid-Southern Conference play. The Pirates cruised to a 61-44 victory after leading 30-24, moving to 10-6 overall and 3-2 in MSC play. Jamal Long led the Pirates in scoring, finishing the game with 16; Tanner Wesp added 13 and Korey Harris 9 respectfully. “We got off to a slow start by really picked up our defensive effort in the second half”, evaluated Pirate Head Coach Jason Connell. The Pirates are next in action Tuesday when they host the Austin Eagles 4-12) in MSC play.
The Mid-Southern Conference Wrestling meet, originally scheduled for the morning of January 23rd has been moved to Saturday evening (January 23rd). The meet will start in the CHS Sports Arena (Auxiliary section) at 6:00 pm with weigh-ins beginning at 5:00 pm.
The Lady Pirate Basketball game will be played as scheduled in the CHS Sports Arena, Saturday night with the JV game tipping at 6:00 pm and Varsity at approximately 7:30 pm.
The Pirate Basketball games scheduled for 6:00 pm (JV) and 7:30 pm (Varsity) at Corydon Saturday night has been POSTPONED TO February 20th.
Effectively immediately, and through February 29th, any Charlestown High School Student, showing their valid CHS Student ID, will be admitted free of charge to any Charlestown High School Regular Season Athletic game; courtesy of the Charlestown Pirate Pride Booster Club. All CHS Students will need to do is sign in at the admission gate, again using their student identification card; and all in the quest of increasing support of our Pirate and Lady Pirate Athletes.
