Big Night at Stargazer for Track

Boys

On a cold, windy Friday night, the Pirate and Lady Pirate track teams headed to Corydon Central High School for the annual Stargazer track meet. After some great individual, and relay performances, the Pirates ended up in 2nd place with 94 points, out of the twelve team meet. Capturing first place honors were, Steven Delaney in the 110 and 300 hurdles, Brendan Lawler in the Long Jump, and Luke Finchum in the Shot Put. Also winning 1st place was the 4×1 team of Lawler, Charles Dickens, Mitch Wurtsmith, and Trey Woodward. Those winning second place were, Mitch Wurtsmith in the 110 hurdles, Trey Woodward in the 100 and 200 dash, and the 4×4 relay team of Delaney, Woodward, Bo Braunecker, and Drashaun Marrow. When asked about the meet, Head Coach Jerry Doyle stated, “I could not have been more proud of how the guys competed, in some pretty tough conditions. I look forward to next week, where we will be in a 4-way at Providence on Tuesday, New Albany Relays on Thursday and on Friday the 4×1 relay team as well as Steven Delaney will be traveling to Lafayette Jeff High School for the Sprinters Showcase.” Great job Pirates and best of luck this week!

Girls

The Lady Pirate team finished in third place out of ten teams at the Corydon Stargazer event on Friday night. For the Lady Pirates, first place finishes included DeAsia King in the Shot Put and Carley Conway in the Long Jump. Second place finishes for the Lady Pirates included King in Discus and Ilayah Keltner in the 100. Other notable finishes included Katie Rhodes, finishing fourth in the 3200 and 5th in the 4×800 (Conway, Rhodes, Gurr, Lakes). The 4×100 relay team finished fourth. When asked about their performance, Head Coach Kim Carroll stated, “This is the best overall performance at Stargazer for CHS Girls Track. Outstanding performances by DeAsia and Carly taking 1st place in their events, and Ilayah and DeAsia taking 2nd place in their events. Most all girls scored points for us and improvement in times/distances from our first meet. It was a great team effort and experience to participate in Stargazer.” Next up for the Lady Pirates: They will join the boys at Providence tomorrow, and they are traveling to Silver Creek on Friday for a girls only invitational.

Great job by our Pirate and Lady Pirate track teams!
